Narsingh (Soumitra Chatterjee) is a proud Rajput who puts honour before everything else. He drives a taxi for living. However, life's wounds have left him scathed which has led him to hate women. His wife had abandoned him when he needed her the most. He has a passion for cars, his own vintage 1930 Chrysler. But his driving is no good and very soon gets caught due to reckless driving. The arrest makes him feel insulted and he decides to move back home to the land of Rajputs. On his way he meets a drug peddler Sukhanram (Charuprakash Ghosh) and Gulabi (Waheeda Rahman) who is a victim of Sukhanram's human trafficking business. Mistaking Gulabi for a gold digger, he sleeps with her without any emotional connect. However, Gulabi gets drawn to him even after the fateful happening. She believes that one day Narsingh will change and will accept her as his own. His unworthy acts earn him a lot of money but lead him to lose friends which affect him mentally.
