Ju Dou (1990)

Synopsis:
A woman married to the brutal and infertile owner of a dye mill in rural China conceives a boy with her husband's nephew but is forced to raise her son as her husband's heir without revealing his parentage in this circular tragedy. This tale of romantic and familial love in the face of unbreakable tradition is more universal than its setting.

Lekin... (1990)

Synopsis:
Samir Niyogi lives in India and is assigned by the Government to travel to Rajasthan, evaluate a princely castle that once belonged to Raja Param Singh, take stock of all items, the condition of the building, and report back to the Government. Enroute to his destination by train, he permits a woman to enter his compartment, goes to sleep, and when he awakens finds her gone. A few days later, when he goes to the castle, he finds the very same woman cooking within the premises. When both enter the castle, he finds himself back in time and witnesses a scene that happened eons ago. When he recovers, he finds himself alone, and locked in. He breaks out and narrates this incident to his friend and local Collector, Shafi and his wife, Sharda. He does meet the woman again in the dead of night, and after showing him the way, she disappears. Then Sharda asks Samir to wear a amulet at all times as it will protect from evil spirits. He does meet the woman again, this time in the middle of the desert, and is not heard of for two days. When Shafi orders the castle to be searched, a dungeon in particular, is where they find Samir in a state of near-death. How did Samir end up in a dungeon that has been sealed for hundreds of years, and what exactly is the mystery behind the woman, who Samir now calls Rewa?

Thanedaar (1990)

Synopsis:
Police Inspector Jagdish Chandar (Dalip Tahil) has been investigating about a gangster Thakur Azghar Singh (Kiran Kumar), and eventually he has been murdered by two foreigners, Lawrence (Goga Kapoor) and Peter (Tej Sapru) who were hired by Azghar. Jagdish's two young sons Avinash and Brijesh are now left behind alone to fed for themselves, where Brijesh kills the assailant and is taken away by Peter and Lawrence, whereas the other son Avinash is adopted by the Police Commissioner and grows up (Jeetendra) to be a police inspector like his father. Brijesh (Sanjay Dutt) has just been released from the jail, and he attempts to rob a jewellery store after which he elopes with his girlfriend, Chanda (Madhuri Dixit) to the same village where his father lived. While on his way to the village a fight takes place between the two brothers, not knowing about the relation with each other. One day in the village he gets to identify about Avinash and starts dominating over the villagers and takes bribe from Azghar Singh. Matter gets complicated when Avinash's wife, Sudha (Jayapradha) comes out in search of her husband only to see that Chanda is being molested by Azghar and his men, forcing Brijesh to take a stand.

Aaj Ka Arjun (1990)

Synopsis:
Thakur Bhupendra Singh (Amrish Puri) and his son Lakhan (Kiran Kumar) are landlords, presiding oppresively over a small community. Lakhan gets Laxmi (Raadhika) pregnant and casts her aside. Her brother Bheema (Amitabh Bachchan) goes to plead with them to accept Laxmi as their daughter-in-law and they reject his pleas and have him thrown out. Bheema tries to avenge this humiliation, only to have his sister killed. Bheema is imprisoned, and after his sentence is over is returns back to his community, only to be told that he can no longer reside there, as the entire community is terrified of the Thakur and his men. Bheema then decides to move out of town. Some villagers and a police officer (Anupam Kher) persuade Bheema to return, and he agrees. On his return, Bheema's nephew Kanhaiya (Baby Guddu) is abducted by Thakur and his men, and he will only be returned after Bheema obtains signatures/thumb prints from everyone in the community, thereby turning over their properties to Thakur's name.

Gaspard et Robinson (1990)

Synopsis:
Rejected by others, two solitary outsiders Gaspard and Robinson form a close bond of friendship and retreat to the barren salt marshes of Marseilles to open a seaside café. Gaspard’s wife walked out on him when he lost his job; Robinson was abandoned by his parents when he was a child. When Robinson meets an old woman alone by the side of the road, he takes her back to his home and offers to let her stay. Gaspard is less enthusiastic at the idea of adopting an old woman.

Shuto Kousoku Trial II (1990)

Synopsis:
Keiichi Tsuchiya (Skyline GT-R (R32) tests tyres on a race track. Yamanaka Taka (Silvia K's (S13) breaks the street course record of his friend Tashiro Junichi (Skyline RS-X (R30). Junichi has given up racing to get married. The villain Sawaki (Fairlady Z (Z32) challenges Taka to a race. Junichi intervenes, stopping Taka from accepting. Taka sees Keiichi outside a Nissan showroom and challenges him to a race. Keiichi says he no longer races on the street, and he will only challenge Taka on a track. Junichi later races Sawaki on condition that he leaves Taka alone. Junichi crashes and dies in this race. Junichi's fiancee had bought a Skyline GT-R (R32) as a wedding present, and gives this to Taka, on condition he never street races again. Taka practises in the GT-R, receiving pointers from Keichii Tsuchiya. Breaking his promise to Junichi's fiancee he also races Sawaki, but during the race, having already dominated Sawaki, he decides racing is futile and doesn't bother to finish. The movie ends with the GT-Rs of Keiichi and Taka chasing each other around a race track. Takahiro, overtakes Tsuchiya, in the final corner of the race, with Nozomi, Junichu's widow, waving the checkered flag as they cross the finish line.

A group of young boys are stranded alone on an island. Left to fend for themselves, they must take on the responsibilities of adults, even if they are not ready to do so. Inevitably, two factions form: one group (lead by Ralph) want to build shelters and collect food, whereas Jack's group would rather have fun and HUNT; illustrating the difference between civilization and savagery.

The Great Moghuls (1990)

Synopsis:
The Great Moghuls is a Channel Four Television documentary series covering the dramatic story of the rise of the Moghul Empire (1526-1857) of India. Over six generations, from father to son, the Great Moghuls captured, consolidated and profoundly influenced control of the vast sub-continent of India. The six-part series was written and presented by Bamber Gascoigne based upon his 1971 book of the same name. It was produced and directed by Douglas Rae and filmed in India.

Der Froschkönig (1990)

Synopsis:
Im Lande herrscht Ruhe und Frieden. Der König und die Königin sind glücklich über ihre drei Töchter. Doch ihr Glück ist getrübt, denn einer Weissagung nach können die drei Prinzessinnen nur heiraten, wenn sie alle innerhalb von 13 Monaten vermählt sind. Ist das nicht der Fall, dann steigt ein Ungeheuer aus dem Wasser und verwüstet das Land mit seinen Tränen. Nachdem die beiden älteren Schwestern unter der Haube sind, ist es an der Jüngsten, einen Prinzen zu heiraten. Doch sie hat eher Bogenschießen und die Jagd im Kopf. Als ein Prinz einen Kuss von ihr fordert, erhält er stattdessen eine Ohrfeige. Doch die Prinzessin hat sich in ihn verliebt und tauscht ihre Knabenkleidung gegen eine Robe ein. Als sie den Prinzen beobachtet, wie er sich von einer Komtess küssen lässt, ist sie zutiefst enttäuscht. Der Prinz wird zur Strafe von einer Fee in einen Frosch verwandelt. Eine Chance erhält er jedoch noch. Wenn es ihm gelingt, dass die Prinzessin ihn in der Gestalt eines Frosches küsst, kann er wieder Menschengestalt annehmen. Der Zufall will es, dass die Prinzessin einen goldenen Ball im Brunnen verliert, in dem der Prinz als Frosch vegetiert. Er bringt ihr den Ball, nachdem sie ihm in der Not dafür einen Kuss versprochen hat. Im Besitz des Balls aber rennt sie davon. Nachdem der Vater die Prinzessin ermahnt, ihr Versprechen einzulösen, fällt sie nach dem Kuss in Ohnmacht. Doch aus dem Frosch ist nun ein schöner Prinz geworden, der die Prinzessin heiratet.

Hum Se Na Takarana (1990)


Synopsis:
It is a pre-independence story of a farmer in a sleepy village and the turbulent life he and his family had to face because of the atrocities of the local 'zamindars' and the British Officers.
Bhola a small farmer in order to meet the pregnancy expenses of his wife decided to mortgage one acre out of the nine acres of his land to the local zamindar, Thakur. Thakur however cheated him and wrote down his entire property on the legal papers, which illiterate Bhola signed on. Thus a dispute rose, which resulted in him being badly beaten and left out for dead. Saviour came in the form of bandit Chandbibi and Bhola joined the gang of dacoits, taking care of Chandbibi's son Badshah.
Meanwhile Bhola's wife Ganga along with her son Vijay toiled on the small piece of land left with them. Vijay formed a friendship with an orphan Amar who Ganga took under her care as her son. Vijay who was good in his studies pursued his education while Amar toiled with his mother. The Thakur's two son, Shamsher and Ranveer often got in scuffle with Vijay and Amar.
Time lapsed by, they all had now grown up and destiny intervened in their life bringing Badsha, Vijay and Amar together to fight a single cause. Fight the tyranny of Thakur and the corrupt British officers who were hand in glove with Thakur. How they achieve this gigantic goal and how Bhola reunites with his family makes for an interesting watch.
