Chetna (1970)

Synopsis:
A shy and reclusive young man, Anil Dhawan, gets to meet a prostitute, Seema, through his friends, Ramesh. Anil is very shy at the very first meeting with Seema, and then starts to cultivate a friendship with her. She responds also, and both fall in love. Anil proposes marriage, and Seema is delighted to accept. Anil has to go out of town for a four or five days. When he returns, he finds Seema has taken up drinking alcohol and smoking in a big way, and appears despondent, and non-chalant, making him wonder what had happened during his absence to make her regress in this manner.

Erste Liebe (1970)

Synopsis:
Based on Ivan Turgeyev's novella, Erste Liebe is about two young lovers in czarist Russia. One is a 21-year-old woman, the other a young man of sixteen. Things take a tragic turn as the girl (Dominique Sanda as Sanaida) falls in love with the boy's father (Maximilian Schell). This film was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film in 1970's Academy Awards.

Uski Roti (1970)

Synopsis:
A desolate bus-stop on a highway. figure of a village woman - Balo, waiting to deliver a meal to Sucha Singh, the husband, a bus driver. He expects the traditional duties of an average Indian rural wife. Balo in turn accepts her husband's independent lifestyle.
Balo hurries to the bus-stop. She is late delivering the meal, trying to save her younger sister, Jinda, from being seduced by the village rake.
The bus arrives, the husband refuses to accept the meal and her explanation. She decided to wait till he returns at night.

His refusal to stay in bed and be treated like a patient. His metaphorical search for Murarilal his so called long lost friend his total commitment to live for others and not wallow in self pity. These are very sensitively brought out by one of Indias finest directors of Hindi cinema Hrishikesh Mukherjee. He teams up with Gulzar as lyricist and dialogue writer to give us some of the best lines in Hindi cinema and some hauntingly lovely songs. It plays on your heartstringa but in the end you will agree Anand lives.

Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (1970)

Synopsis:
This is a complete family drama. It is about the usual issue of the relationship between the mother-in-law (Saas) and daughter-in-law (Bahu). The movie has two families. The first family has a mother, daughter (Sadhana) and a son a Bahu (Lajwanti) but the mother doesn't keep her in her house and asks her to live at her father's place because her father was unable to pay the dowry as was asked. The other family is made up of a mother, father, and a son. The son falls in love with Sadhana and his family supports to get back Lajwanti back to her husband's place as he is worried about her. But yet her mother-in-law keeps her in a bad condition. And then even Sadhana's mother-in-law feels that she has started showing her true colours.

Kati Patang (1970)

Synopsis:
His is a story of a woman whose life is like a kite whose string is cut off from the base. Madhavi - Asha Parekh is an orphan living with her maternal uncle, who arranges her marriage with someone she does not know, so she runs away to her lover, Kailash - Prem Chopra, only to discover that she has been backing a wrong person. She returns home and she finds her uncle is dead. She leaves home and arrives at the railway station, and meets her childhood friend Punam, who is a widow now and going to her in-laws at Nainital with her son. On the compulsion of Punam, Madhavi agrees to accompany them to Nainital.On the way the train meets with an accident, and Punam is fatally wounded. Before death she requests Madhavi to travel to Nainital with the child and present herself as Punam to the parents of her late husband, who have not met her so far, to keep the promise given to the dead friend Madhavi starts for Nainital and meets the same person Kamal, who came to marry her. The real story now begins - Madhavi's unfettered life swims in the ocean of uncertainties-an atmosphere surcharged with emotion, love, hatred hopes and disappointments.

Devi (1970)

Synopsis:
Devi is a young woman who lives in a village in India with her widowed mother, Jamuna. She meets with the local doctor, Shekhar, both fall in love with each other, and get married. This marriage does not meet with the approval of Shekhar's elder brother, and his widowed mother-in-law, who. along with an unmarried daughter, Shobha, are living with him after the demise of eldest daughter. She also does not approve of this marriage as she wants Shekhar to marry Shobha. When Shekhar decides to re-locate due to animosity shown to his wife, the brothers compromise and Devi is reluctantly welcomed. Soon Devi becomes pregnant much to the delight of Shekhar. Then Shekhar must travel overseas to attend a medical seminar. A few weeks later when he returns he finds that Devi has left. When he goes to look for her at her mother's house, he is asked to go to the local brothel where he finds Devi's photograph, alongside the photo of her widowed mom in the arms of a male.

The Railway Children (1970)

Synopsis:
The film opens in a happy, comfortable upper middle-class home in Victorian London. One night the three children see their father usher two strangers into his study. After an argument he leaves with them and does not return. They and their mother fall on hard times and eventually move to a cottage in the country. Yet they keep their spirits up and find ways to help others. Fascinated by the nearby railroad, they wave to the passengers faithfully every day, and their vigilance and courage prevent an accident. Their kindness makes friends of some important people who can help solve the mystery of their missing father.

Love Story (1970)


Synopsis:
Harvard Law student Oliver Barrett IV and music student Jennifer Cavilleri share a chemistry they cannot deny - and a love they cannot ignore. Despite their opposite backgrounds, the young couple put their hearts on the line for each other. When they marry, Oliver's wealthy father threatens to disown him. Jenny tries to reconcile the Barrett men, but to no avail. Oliver and Jenny continue to build their life together. Relying only on each other, they believe love can fix anything. But fate has other plans. Soon, what began as a brutally honest friendship becomes the love story of their lives.

The film, well-known as a tragedy, is considered one of the most romantic of all time by the American Film Institute (#9 on the list), and was followed by a sequel, Oliver's Story during 1978. Love Story starred Ryan O'Neal, Ali MacGraw, and Ray Milland and also is the film debut of Tommy Lee Jones with a minor role.

The novel also includes the double meaning of a love story between Oliver and his father.

Waterloo (1970)

Synopsis:
After defeating France and imprisoning Napoleon on Elba, ending two decades of war, Europe is shocked to find Napoleon has escaped and has caused the French Army to defect from the King back to him. The best of the British generals, the Duke of Wellington, beat Napolean's best generals in Spain and Portugal, but has never faced Napoleon. Wellington stands between Napoleon with a makeshift Anglo-Allied army and the Prussians. A Napoleon victory will plunge Europe back into a long term war. An allied victory could bring long term peace to Europe. The two meet at Waterloo where the fate of Europe will be decided.

Shortly after he is forced to abdicate the emperorship and retire to Elba, Napoleon (Rod Steiger) roars back to the front in defiance of King Louis XVIII (Orson Welles). Wellington (Christopher Plummer) readies an international coalition to battle the dictator at Waterloo. Despite its notoriety as a box office flop, Sergei Bondarchuk's lavish epic is a true feat of grand-scale filmmaking, complete with a climactic battle featuring 20,000 extras.
